Chain Reaction for a Cure is a non-profit 501(3)(c) organization dedicated solely to
funding cutting-edge research to find a cure for breast cancer. Our mission is to give
new hope to the millions of women who are now battling or will soon be diagnosed with
this deadly disease.
1 in 7 American women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.
You cannot afford to think that it will not happen to you or someone you love.
Our goal is to bring together the family and friends of all women that have been,
or are someday likely to be, affected by this devastating disease and become the largest
non-governmental funding source for breast cancer research in the world.
Breast Cancer Now
Today, public perception seems to be that few women who develop breast cancer actually die
of the disease. This fallacy is even perpetuated by well-meaning cancer organizations.
The overall survival rate for breast cancer is often said to be 83%. However, this frequently quoted statistic is misleading because it only represents 5-year survival
not disease-free survival.
According to the American Cancer Society, the overall 15-year survival rate of
someone diagnosed with breast cancer is just 56%.
And the survival rate gets worse thereafter.
With breast cancer, remaining disease-free for 5 years does not mean
you are safe from a deadly recurrence. Even breast cancer detected at
the earliest stage can metastasize many years later. Once metastasized,
breast cancer is no longer considered a curable disease. Furthermore,
women diagnosed at a young age are much less likely to survive.
The true facts about breast cancer are not just bad news for the
countless women who will be diagnosed while in the prime of their
lives, they are also devastating for the husbands, children and other
loved ones who are left behind.
How CRFC will make a difference
The key to saving lives is to fund research. History proves that increased research
funding will hasten the development of new treatments and preventive therapies. For
example, the strides made in discovering life-saving treatments for those affected by
AIDS were only made possible after the government and public provided a tremendous
amount of financial support to fund important research. Worldwide, more than
1.2 million people a year will develop breast cancer and over 375,000 will die every
year. An estimated 3 million women in the United States alone are living with
breast cancer. Ironically, these devastating statistics are what make it possible to
raise an enormous amount of money to fund cutting-edge research; if everyone who has
been touched by breast cancer (or is likely to be) can be mobilized to give
just $10, statistically, hundreds of millions of dollars can be raised.
Our web-based fundraising program will motivate everyone to join in the fight because it will
enable each individual to see that he or she can make a real difference in saving lives.
Our program will make it possible (and easy) for everyone to feel empowered in the fight
against breast cancer. With enough funding for research, new treatments can be found that
will save the lives of millions of women. Through Chain Reaction for a Cure and the power of the
Internet, enough money can be raised to make a significant difference in the search for a cure.
All it takes is $10 and ten minutes for one person to start a "chain reaction" that can fund an
entire research program.
Here's how it works: one person makes a small donation through our web
site and asks 4 friends or family members to do the same. Each friend becomes a "link" in the
effort to save lives by making their own $10 dollar donation and asking 4 of their friends or
family members to become a link in their own "chain reaction."
This program is not in anyway like a chain letter
Participants are discouraged from emailing
random acquaintances in their email address book. To the contrary, each link is asked to carefully
choose only close friends, family members or loved ones that can be counted on to respond to their
personal request to join the fight to stop breast cancer. Further, once someone becomes a "link"
their email address is blocked from being entered as a "link" in someone else's "chain reaction".
A link can opt to unblock their email address so they can participate in other future
"chain reactions."
There is no longer a reason for anyone to believe that they can't make a difference.
Through Chain Reaction for a Cure, each participant is, in essence, starting their own
chain reaction that can end up raising tens of thousands of dollars or more.
The best part of our fund raising program is that each participant can keep track of
the money that is being raised from his or her link forward. So each donor can see what a difference
they are making in the search for a cure. Each link also has the exciting option of preventing
their "chain reaction" from ever dying out by periodically adding additional links (if needed)
to keep their "chain reaction" going strong. With a little extra effort, one person can be the
catalyst in raising millions of dollars! Together, over one billion dollars can be raised to
fund the discovery of a cure.
Chain Reaction for a Cure will fund only preventive and treatment based novel research that
demonstrates the potential to produce life-saving treatments. Our board of directors is
committed to developing corporate sponsorships to help defray any non-donated operational
expenses so that 95% or more of donations made by the public through "chain reactions" will go
directly to fund cutting-edge research. Our medical advisory board made up of leading scientists
and cancer specialists as well as lay people with breast cancer will evaluate all research grant
applications and determine which promising research funding requests will be awarded Chain Reaction
grants.
